Below are some shots of a small alternator with the blades mounted on a plywood disc... Below it's assembled The bearing assembly is an old broom stick drilled to accept 1/4" bearings and glued to the plywood hub. The steel disc holding the magnets is simply screwed to the plywood disc as well. The coils are pinned down to the plywood using safety wire although you could simply use some copper wire to hold them as well. This one wasn't meant to be a big worker but it does charge batteries at a half amp or so in moderate winds. Lots of fun! Fun quick project. |
